I lost my best buddy, Josie on Saturday, just one day shy of her 16th birthday. She was getting older and slowing down but still loved her walks and treats and scratches and we didn't expect her to go so quickly. It still seems surreal and I find myself looking around the house for her, listening for her dog tag clanging against her food dish and her looking up at me to see if I had any treats. We had so many adventures together, hiking, camping, canoeing and running. SO many runs together.
I can't tell you how much it meant to me to hear from so many people who have also lost a beloved pet and knew just what I was going through. In fact, reading through those many Facebook posts and Instagram comments made it just a little easier, remembering that nearly everyone has experienced the loss of their pet. If you've lost a pet, I really recommend going to daveryankdwb on Facebook and reading the comforting words of people who helped me get through the weekend.
Now, let's turn this into something better. You can donate right now, right here to the Animal Humane Society. We got our collie Gracie from AHS back in 2003 and she was such a wonderful pet. The work they do and the love and shelter they provide as they find homes for pets is so important.
Donate in memory of Josie or in memory of your pet that has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. It's a lasting void in our lives and if you have felt that pain, you may feel a little joy in knowing you did something so other pets can find their forever home.
The great news: It's Match Month! Whatever amount you donate will be matched dollar-for-dollar. So please take advantage of this and donate what you can.
We tried to come up with a clever name for this project and we asked Chat GPT for ideas. The best one it came up with was Joy for Josie. Not the best name ever, but it'll do!
Thanks so much for your support and thanks for supporting those furry friends of ours!
