Happy Graduation? These 10 College Degrees Pay the Least

If your kid is graduating this month with one of these degrees, pat them on the back and tell them it's important work. Then tell them to start pinching pennies . . .

Fortune.com posted a list of the Top 10 college degrees that earn the LEAST amount of money straight out of school. The median income for all the jobs listed is between $40,000 and $42,000 a year.

1. A foreign language, like majoring in French. It's the lowest at $40,000.

2. General social sciences. Jobs like youth counselor or teacher's aide.

3. Performing arts

4. Anthropology

5. Early childhood education

6. Family and consumer sciences

7. General education

8. Miscellaneous biological sciences. Jobs like lab tech or research assistant.

9. Social services

10. Theology and religion. The last seven on the list all tied at $42,000 a year.

They also did a list of the lowest-paying "MID-career" degrees . . . meaning you've been at it a while, and you're still underpaid. Early childhood education ranks last at $49,000, followed by elementary education at $53,000.

They noted that new grads with degrees in "STEM" tend to make more. That's "science, technology, engineering, and math."
