I saw my favorite improv group on Friday, The Bearded Company, who do an improvised Dungeons and Dragons campaign called Swords and Sorcery. This was their last show at HUGE Theater, which is closing on the 31st. It was pretty emotional; I've been going to see their shows for the last 7 years - they're the reason I started coming to HUGE in the first place.
After improv, I drove the 2.5 hours in the dark to Spooner, Wisconsin for my friend Sarah's birthday. On the way there I almost hit a deer, got pulled over for accidental speeding, and talked on the phone with a chatty bank robber. Sarah got herself a cabin airbnb in the middle of nowhere to just hang out together for the weekend.
Saturday we hit up the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, and wow what a fun collection of community. There were giant fish outside.
There was also a museum, where we saw MANY a taxidermied fish, bear, and bigfeet...?
We went into Hayward proper and thrifted, got candy, and meandered shops on Main.
Back to the cabin for a bonfire, hilarious games, and a hide'n'seek/tag in the dark game called Bodies Bodies Bodies. We were just goofin around all night in our Halloween costumes (I was a Walmart employee).
On Sunday I ventured back home after the morning in Wisconsin, and then attended the HUGE Theater "funeral" (we put the fun in funeral). There was about an hour of lightning speeches (where I was so inclined to awkwardly say my piece), then a gather and eat cake time. That was the last time I would be in that theater, a place that has brought me so much joy. The community will persevere, but I am still heartbroken it's closing.
