What did I do on Friday night? You guessed it! I once again saw my favorite improv group, The Bearded Company, do their improvised Dungeons and Dragons campaign called Swords and Sorcery (every Friday night at 7:30pm at HUGE Theater in Uptown.) I also managed to volunteer in the box office before the show, my last volunteer shift at HUGE before they close at the end of October, and it was bittersweet.
Debate season is underway! No awards again this weekend (y'all it's hard to go 3-1 and especially hard to go 4-0), but I had novices debating for the first time and they didn't tank entirely! Had an alumni come and judge and tell me all about his time in college, and even got to watch some of my kids when I had a round off from judging!
Performed again in Improvised Twilight Zone at HUGE Theater. My set was the best I've been in so far! Arnie Palmer Jr. was visited by his father, Arnold Palmer Sr, famed golfer. I wasn't a main character, but I made the story come to life with scene painting, aux characters, and I got a handful of laughs! My mom was there! My last performance is Oct 19th!
Sunday I had rehearsal for the Twin Cities Horror Festival show I make a cameo in - The Wrench. I have 3 whole lines and a scream! Since I've been memorized since the first rehearsal, my new job is being on book for everyone else, so I essentially just read along until someone needs to be prompted with their lines!
Sunday afternoon was my first time attending a show as a Spotlight Evaluator. During the school year, I'll go see high school theatre productions and write educational feedback for them. I went to Waconia High School to see Newsies - it was a drive full of fall colors, a great show, and I stopped at ENKI Brewery on the way home for a victory beer and to get all my notes typed out.
To round out my weekend, my friend Sarah and I went to a *secret backyard indie performance*. I saw Spooky & Gay Cabaret at the TC Horror Festival two years ago and loved it, so when I found out through the grapevine that Bruce Costella was coming back to Minneapolis and having a SECRET performance, Spooky and Gay-er, I hella signed up to go. It was in the backyard of someone's home, but they had whiskey ciders, a bonfire, and immaculate vibes. Bruce told stories, sang songs, and did stand up. It was very spooky and very gay, and VERY Minneapolis.
