Eastview High School Dancer Makes History as First Male to Compete at State

Logan Schommer is making history - but he'd never tell you that.

Logan Schommer is a senior on the Eastview Lightning Dance Team in Apple Valley, MN and this weekend, he'll be the first male dancer to compete in the State Dance Team Tournament.

I attended Eastview as a student and dancer and coached within the program for almost 10 years after graduation. Last year was Logan's first year on the team after a 2019 federal court ruling opened up Minnesota dance team competitions to male athletes. I was fortunate enough to coach Logan in both jazz and kick and can tell you first-hand how wonderful and special he is. Dedicated, kind, humble and hardworking, Logan is the dream athlete for any coach and could not be more deserving of this history making accomplishment.

Logan spoke with KSTP during practice to remark on this weekend's upcoming achievement.

Thank you to KSTP for highlighting this incredible student athlete as well as the Eastview Lightning Dance Team.

Good luck to all the Minnesota dancers competing this weekend in the State Championship Tournament!
