Drag superstar Jade Jolie is receiving all kinds of praise for her Taylor Swift look, which she also dons in the "You Need to Calm Down" video, at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night (August 26)
You're already aware that John Travolta mistook the former RuPaul's Drag Race contestant for the pop titan, but so did the star's friend/supermodel Gigi Hadid. In a new interview with NewNowNext, the drag queen spilled on Monday's festivity. "I honestly think it was just hilarious and made my night," Jolie said of Travolta main show mix-up, before spilling the goods on what happened backstage and at the celebratory afterparty.
"Well, funny enough, when we were walking in the back [during the VMAs], where it’s mainly dancers and stuff, I got tired of saying, “No, I’m not her,” so I just started hugging people! So nice to meet you, too!'" she recalled. "And at the after-party Gigi Hadid kept thinking I was Taylor—they’re really good friends. The drunker we got, I guess the more Taylor I became for everyone!"
Asked what has made Swift her muse, Jolie said that the reason falls on her general positivity. "The last time I loved an artist as much as her, it was the Spice Girls. The reason is, I tend to love people who always have a smile on and whose message is generally positive," she explained. "It's not that everything is great, but there’s a positive outlook. I haven’t always had a great life, but at the end of the day I always have a smile on and positivity to keep going. I not only love that she writes her own music, but her whole image—she is a person I look up to. I don’t necessarily think people are looking up to me, but if I ever have that honor, I would want to put out a positive message and make your day a little better. She does that for me."
