Dave's Weekend in Five Photos: Carson's Last Weekend at Home

I think I realized something. I've been so focused on how sad I'm going to be when Carson moves away to college this week, that I've put a damper on how excited he must be about going. I know he's a little nervous and a little sad too, but when I keep reminding him of how I'm going to miss him and "This is the last time we're doing so-and-so..." it bums him out.

So between now and when we drop him off, I'm going to be positive and make sure he sees that I'm excited for him, not sad for me.

And with that, let's get on to my weekend in five pictures!

We did our show from the fair on Saturday and we were about to go on the radio when someone walked up to say hi. I was in the middle of raising my hand up to make the "hold on a second" gesture when I looked up and it was my cousin Roxanne! I hadn't seen her in a few years and there she was! Turns out she was visiting some relatives in Redwing (she lives in Denver) and came by the fair. She's the sweetest and I was so happy to see her!

You never know who you're going to run into at the fair. I ALWAYS run into someone I met years ago or worked with in the past. These two weren't that long ago, but it was great to see Lucas and Jordan who both used to work at KDWB. I love both of these guys!

We went to the Miracle of Birth barn and watched a calf being born. While everyone was looking at the birth on the monitors, I was watching the expressions on their faces. The woman on the left and the one right behind her really say it all.

BTW, the cow needed help from veterinarians to deliver her calf and they said that without help, she and the calf would have died. After he was born (The crowd named him Oliver) mom licked him clean and nuzzled him to encourage him to stand up and to help him breath on his own.

We were sitting on the deck with Carson Sunday morning when Susan pretty much just burst into tears over him leaving. She's been way better about it than I have, and I cry at the most random things. It was a very sweet moment so I got a picture.

BTW, you can hear my podcast all about how to handle it when your kid leaves for college at this link. Some great expert advice on everything from safety to room mates to dealing with separation.

I hope you had a great weekend! Thanks for looking at my blog!
