22 Years Ago, Someone Sent Me a Letter...

This came via email the other day. It's from a now-grown woman who wrote to me when she was just 12 years old.  Here's what she emailed to me:

Hey Dave! I just wanted to take time to reach out to you and tell you how much I have enjoyed your show almost my entire life.

I first started listening probably around 1992 when I was in second grade. But I wanted to share with you today a memory that I found while going through some of my old boxes.

Back in ‘96 we had and assignment for class I’m not sure which one it was but we were told to write a letter (yes an old school letter with a stamp and everything) to somebody that we looked up to, who we admired, somebody “famous”.  So of course I chose you Dave Ryan even though I wasn’t aware what exactly you were talking about on the radio in the mornings I do know that I love the music. Music has always been a part of my life.  I thought it was so cool that I had the opportunity to reach out to my favorite DJ and hopefully hear something back. You know that feeling when you were a  kid and you were excited to receive something in the mail? Unlike now you wish that you didn’t get any paper mail (bills) only packages. Well the day finally arrived and I got my letter from KDWB which had me screaming in excitement.

Not only did I brag about getting a letter from Dave Ryan to my class I also kept it and decided to add it to my collection of awesome celebrity items and pictures from magazines. My dad worked at Blaine High School (so glad I went to CR) so I was able to use the laminator to laminate all of my collection when I was in high school.

So what you see before you is a small token of my memory pages dedicated to you Dave Ryan and my love for KDWB. Pictured below you will see the wonderful Hanson who performed outside the Mall of America. I don’t remember what year that was (97?) but it was AMAZING!! I also have pictures of my many trips to Last Chance Summer Dance, I am so sad that you guys don’t have that anymore. I am so happy that you continue to have concerts in the rotunda for fans to meet their favorite celebs. Meeting NSYNC was the highlight of ‘98!

Life has taken me away from the Twin Cities and has brought me back, I am so glad to still hear you on the radio along with Steve and Falen.

I have been thinking about this and wanted to share it with you on your anniversary with the station but I could not find it at that time. So Happy Belated Anniversary Dave Ryan and thank you so much for the many memories and the awesome music that you share.

Feel free to share the story on the radio if you wanna topic to discuss. #NoShame #SorryNotSorry #Memories #KDWBForever

Thanks for sharing this Sarita! How cool!  The whole time I was reading, I was worried she was going to say, "And you never wrote me back."

Phew! I'm glad I did!

I know I'm a good person because:

-When I was 21, my co-worker's girlfriend tried to hook up with me after he left for work and I didn't even consider it. I would never had done that to him.

-I wrote back to this girl 22 years ago.
