They're everywhere. Go outside to sit on the deck and they're there. Sometimes just a few, sometimes swarms of them.
BTW, have you ever wondered what people did before insect repellant was invented during World War 2? I've wondered too! Turns out that we used everything from mud, animal fat, long sleeves and pants and simply waving a rag to keep them off us. I've read that back then we just dealt with them. Kids didn't seem to mind them much, it was just part of being outside. If they got too bad, they'd run away or jump in some water.
