Most People Are Drinking To Cope With Stress

According to a new survey, 58 percent of all adults who drink alcohol are drinking "to escape."

Some other highlights -- or lowlights -- of the survey include:

  • 47 percent of drinkers said they did so to cheer themselves up.
  • 41 percent said drinking gave them relief when they felt depressed or anxious.
  • 38 percent said forgetting their worries was one of the reasons they sometimes turned to booze.
