Before a cliche' gets worn it, it's usually pretty powerful and descriptive. But they have their life cycles and when it's time to stop saying, "She's a rockstar!" or "That's low-hanging fruit" then you just gotta stop!
Someone once told me that as soon as grandma's and little kids catch onto a trend or cliche' like "Really?" or "I know, right?" then it's well past time to drop it.
