Lifehack: Open a Wine Bottle Without a Corkscrew

If the shoe fits:

You’ll need a shoe for this one, recommended by YouTuber Jay Saunders. His tip is to put the bottle inside the foot hole and pound the bottle against the wall until the cork pops out. The same thing can be done with a book instead of a shoe, it’s just something to protect the wall from the banging.

Pros: They say it always works. Cons: This method can take a while and it’s loud, so it could annoy your neighbors. But when a cork is all that’s standing between you and a glass of wine, you’ll try anything once.

The key to success:

Use a key - a spare one if you have it, just in case it gets damaged - to remove the foil from the cork then push the key into the edge of the cork at a 45-degree angle. Gently turn it around in circles, so the cork turns with it. Keep turning it, like a corkscrew, until the cork comes out enough to grab it with your hand, then gently pull it out.

Pros: You can do it on the go. Cons: Strong hands needed.

Wood you believe it:

First, remove the foil from the top of the bottle. Then grab a wooden spoon or a sturdy makeup brush and sit on a chair with the bottle of wine between your legs.

Use the wooden spoon to push the cork into the bottle.

Pros: It’s quick and pretty easy. Cons: The wine might spill, so don’t try it over carpet.
