We've moved on from "ghosting" - you know, the top way to torture the people you're dating for a few years now. That's when, suddenly, you cut off all communication with them, stop returning their messages, and basically disappear...like a ghost.
Well, apparently there's a new dating torture method that's becoming more and more common in the Tinder era. It's called "breadcrumbing." Here's the Urban Dictionary definition:
The act of sending out flirtatious, but non-committal text messages (i.e breadcrumbs') to members of the opposite sex in order to lure a sexual partner without expending much effort.
It's kind of like keeping players on the bench in case you need them later in the game - like "liking" an Instagram post once in a while to make sure the person knows you're interested and to remind them of you.
