Four Phrases You Can Use to Shut Down Unsolicited Advice

We've all been there: You're wrestling with a tough decision, when someone swoops in with "helpful" advice you never asked for. Here are four ways to respond the next time you get some unsolicited advice . . .

1. "Thanks for sharing. I'll consider it." It politely acknowledges their input without locking yourself in.

2. "That's a useful view. I prefer to handle it this way." This shows you're listening to their perspective while keeping the choice of how to act in your hands.

3. "I appreciate your input. I already have a plan for how I'll move forward." This respectfully signals that you've got things under control.

4. "I hear you. If I need more guidance, I'll reach out." This validates their effort but also prevents further unsolicited input unless you seek it out.
