This weekend, Hallmark trots out three new holiday movies in their Countdown to Christmas. Friday night is Private Princess Christmas, Saturday watch Sugarplummed and on Sunday Hallmark screens Leah's Perfect Gift.
The holiday genre feels cozy because they’re cut from the same mold. According to the site Slash Film, there are at least 10 plot points repeated in every Christmas classic:
- Characters are named Holly, Eve, Nick and Chris
- Return to a small hometown
- Conflict between small and big business
- People resist the obvious romantic partner
- Whimsical head trauma or amnesia
- Magic exists
- A Grinch rediscovers joy
- A literal Santa Claus visits
- The town comes together
- No one has sex
