Girlfriend Charges Her Boyfriend $50 Each Time He Comes Home Late

A woman on Reddit says that she’s tired of her boyfriend’s partying ways and is charging him $50 every time he comes home past 4 a.m.

She and the guy have been together for two years and during the first half of their relationship, she had a drinking problem and would stay out late past 3 a.m. and she would “irresponsibly allow [her] phone to die.”

She wrote, “He told me it was unacceptable, eventually, it seemed like such a big deal to my boyfriend that I just sucked it up, stopped staying out late, and stopped drinking.”

She now claims to be sober but he still drinks which is fine but he has new friends that like to go and drink so he was coming home later and later.

“I thought I should just calmly explain to him why I disagree with his actions. But, after almost a year, he still does it,” she said. “So, tonight when he left at midnight, I made a proposition. If either one us aren’t home 4am, we have to give the other $50 and no one can be angry.”

Now she’s asking fellow Reddit members for advice on whether or not fining her boyfriend for his partying ways will save his relationship. The answers were mixed.

“This $50 thing is a bad idea, it sounds like it’s going to breed resentment, not actually encourage him to get home on time,” one user wrote.

“He told me it was unacceptable,” the woman, whose Reddit name is “alwaysonthedamnphone,” wrote in the post. “Eventually, it seemed like such a big deal to my boyfriend that I just sucked it up, stopped staying out late, and stopped drinking.”

But now that she’s gotten sober, she claims that her partner recently found a new set of drinking buddies and frequently stays out past 3 a.m.

“This $50 thing is a bad idea, it sounds like it’s going to breed resentment, not actually encourage him to get home on time,” one user wrote.

“He sucks because he set the precedence on not being home late but [won’t] follow through himself,” another user said.
