The Worst Messages to Send on Dating Apps... Including "Hey"

It isn't easy coming up with the perfect things to say to a "match" on an online dating app . . . but there are a lot of WRONG things.  (Like starting any sentence with, "Not to sound sexist, but . . .")

A new survey asked single people about the worst messages to send through dating apps . . . and here are the Top 10:

1. "Hey" or "Hi" . . . 78% of users say they don't like that.  (Maybe because it's too basic, and forces the other person to start a conversation.)

2. "You up?" . . . 72%

3. "How are you?" . . . 65%

4. Cheesy pickup lines, like: "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?" . . . 59%

5. "Hey beautiful" or "hey handsome" . . . 54%

6. Starting off with, "I usually never message first, but" . . . 48%

7. "What are you up to?" . . . 43%

8. "You free tonight?" . . . 41%

9. "You remind me of my ex" . . . 40%

10. "Tell me why we should date" . . . 39%

Some others that made the list include:

"You're the man (or woman) of my dreams."

"Why are you single?" Or, "How long have you been single?"

"You look like trouble."

"I bet you get a lot of messages."

"I'd treat you right"

And "we'd have beautiful children."

An expert says the keys are: Adding personality to your messages . . . sharing details about your life while asking a match about theirs . . . and being unique to stand out, both in the topics you talk about AND your tone.
