This seems like an amazing hack until you find out it could KILL you: A holistic mommy blogger recently shared a trick on TikTok to keep un-cut avocados fresh.
Just submerge them in water and store them in the fridge for up to a month. She claims they'll be as good as new . . . posted a video to prove it . . . and the two-week-old avocado she cuts into does look pretty fresh. (Here's the video.)
But the FDA just weighed in and told people NOT to do it, because those avocados can end up covered . . . or even filled . . . with dangerous BACTERIA.
Close to one in five avocados have listeria on the outside, and sometimes salmonella. When you leave them in water, that bacteria spreads and multiplies a lot faster. And it can even get through the skin into the part you eat. So even if an avocado looks fresh, it could make you sick or even kill you.
