A few months ago I saw a friend post on Twitter that he'd been sober for a year. I thought, "Wow, I had no idea he had an issue with drinking", so I asked him to be on my podcast to tell his story.
The response was so overwhelming from people who also secretly struggle with drinking, I decided to do a series on average people who you would never suspect had a drinking issue.
Since then I've talked to people who are just moms who drink too much wine, someone who goes to AA and claims she's sober but drinks in the middle of the night to avoid withdrawals, counselors, therapist and as many people as I can to get their stories. Some are sad, some are hopeful, some are difficult to listen to. My goal is to normalize conversations about struggling with alcohol.
