It's easy to expect the worst from people. That's just as true for younger kids as it is for adults, since some children sometimes haven't had a chance to really learn about empathy yet, or might have a harder time understanding those who are different.
That wasn't the case for the boys on this middle school basketball team.
According to the article published by AmericaNow.com, Lincoln Middle School in Kenosha, Wisconsin had a cheerleader with Downs Syndrome. While hosting one of many basketball games for the school, fans started to bully her.
Three of the basketball players - Miles, Chase, and Scooter - noticed what was happening and decided that they needed to do something about it. They walked right off the court in protest of the audience's offensive behavior.
“The kids in the audience were picking on D, so we all stepped forward," said Chase.
“We were mad. We didn’t like that. We asked our sports director to talk to the people and tell them not to make fun of her,” said Miles.
"It's not fair when other people get treated wrong, because we're all the same,” said Scooter.
