Dave’s Pikes Peak Training Hike Weekend in WAY more than five pictures!

Whew!

I did it! I hiked halfway up Pikes Peak as part of my training for the big climb all the way to the summit later this summer.

Normally, I just do five pictures from the weekend but I have so many! Let’s get started!

Okay, first of all, you may have seen this picture of me when I was about 9 or 10. My dad and I had just dub 800 pounds of potatoes and dad was so proud he took a picture…Welllllll…

Here’s that same view today. Many, many years later. I just thought it was kind of cool to see how much things have changed.

People ask me if we really raised chickens. Yup…Here’s the old chicken house. It’s falling down and I need to figure out what to do with it.

I got a lot of work done! Here’s a posed selfie of me pushing a wheelbarrow full of firewood…

…to restock the woodshed. All that work and it doesn’t seem like much wood. THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!

This tree got struck by lightning and I cut all the limbs off the top.

Susan said she can’t tell the difference! LOL!

I met my old friend Mike for a beer. He’s hysterical. One of those people who doesn’t care what anyone thinks and will say anything.

Monday, I got up at 4am and was on the trail to Pikes Peak before 5:30. Colorado is so crowded now that I’m glad I did because the parking lot was already filling up.

Sunrise over Colorado Springs from partway up the trail.

I have no idea who this guy is but he was stopping and talking to everyone and he wanted a picture with me, so I got one with him!

A sign telling me I have 3.5 miles to go to my turnaround point, Barr Camp.

I stopped and talked to this amazing woman. Meet Nicole. She’s 76 and does this 13 mile hike twice a week. Her husband is dying of cancer and she says it’s the only thing that keeps her sane. SEVENTY SIX! Holy buckets!

Nicole, you are an inspiration!

The trail winds on and on. But remember, No Hill Goes Up Forever!

I’m six miles in! Almost at Barr Camp!

And I made it! I talked to Jared, the caretaker for awhile, had a couple cups of hot tea and was on my way back down!

That’s my hometown in the distance!

And I rewarded myself with a Coca-Cola Slurpy! It was runny and soupy but I didn’t care!

What a weekend! I hope you had a great weekend too! Thank so much for taking time (and a little extra time!) to look at my pictures!

Have a great, short week!

-Dave
