Chaka Khan is being recognized, but for the "Musical Excellence" award. Same with Elton John-collaborator Bernie Taupin and songwriter Al Kooper.
DJ Kool Herc will receive the "Musical Influence" award. He helped develop hip hop music, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Guitarist Link Wray will also receive the "Musical Influence" award.
And the Ahmet Ertegun award will go to "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius.
The ceremony will take place November 3rd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. (Hollywood Reporter)
