Pete Wentz has been dishing out all kinds of fun stories on his new radio show. After confessing that Fall Out Boy's 2007 hit โThnks Fr Th Mmrs" was inspired by Josie and the Pussycats last week, the bassist revealed on his latest episode that he was almost cast in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but lost out on the role to Lord Of The Rings actor Dominic Monaghan, ironically while filming the star-studded Jimmy Kimmel Live sketch "F*@#ing Ben Affleck" alongside him.
โLiterally, while Iย was filming this, my manager called me and they were like,โ โYouโve been offered aย role in the next XโMen,โโ Wentz recalled. โโโItโs aย really small role. Youโre going to have to fly right from the F*@#ing Ben Affleck shoot to Australia to film it. And they need to know right now.โ And so Iย was like, โโOkay, cool. Let me think about it.โ Iย go on, Iย film the F*@#ing Ben Affleck thing with this guy, Dominic Monaghan. Heโs in Lord Of The Rings, you know, whatever? Really cool, really funny. Weโre paired together in theย song."
โAnd Iย get home from the shoot and Iโm like,โ โYeah, Iย want to go do XโMen. Iย donโt really care what Iย have to miss. Fly me to Australia.โ And my manager was like, โโWell, while you were thinking about it, they actually cast the role.โ Iย was like,โโ F**k,โโ he continued. โโAnd they were like,โ โOh yeah, itโs this guy Dominic Monaghan doing the part.โ Iย was like,โโAre you f**king kidding me?! Iย was literally just standing next to this guy.โ And if he wasnโt so nice, Iโd be f**king furious. But Iย think that was my one chance. We might have been sitting here doing In Defence of Pete Wentz as an XโMenย character."
More than a decade later, and Wentz is still bitter (which isn't surprising since he named his daughter Marvel). โWhen Iย watch the movie, Iย see his character and Iโm always like, โโThat could have been me,โ you know? And itโs this tiny little character and itโs this tiny little blip of aย role that he probably doesnโt even think about ever. Iย donโt know.โ
Sigh.
