Katy Perry Faces Backlash For Promoting Her Dad's Nonpartisan Clothing Line

Katy Perry fans are disappointed that she's supporting her father's nonpartisan clothing line.

The “Smile” singer came under fire this weekend for sharing a video on Instagram of her father, Keith, advertising his new brand, Nothing But American.

“We haven’t always seen [eye-to-eye] but I’m proud of my dad n bro for coming up with this! Head to @NothingButUSA store for the vibes,” Perry captioned a clip of her Christian preacher father wearing a T-shirt that denounces Democrat and Republican labels and instead sees fellow citizens as Americans.

Keith begins the 58-second video appealing to viewers who are “tired of the division that is destroying our country” and “sick of losing family and friends” due to disagreements over their political and religious views.

He concluded, “No matter what you believe, at the end of the day we’re all Americans and I designed this T-shirt because I want people to know that, even though you may have a different religion or political view than I do, I still will be there for you and I’ll still consider you my friend, my neighbor and my fellow American.”

As unifying as Keith’s message appeared to be, fans were disappointed by the politically-charged post and even angrier about Perry’s sharing the ad on her social media.

"Delete this nonsense," one Instagram user urged, as another added, "ok katy love u but maybe not this."

Someone else tweeted, "You need to realize it is YOUR PRIVILEGE being able to speak to your family even if they are republicans or conservatives. most of us feel threatened by those people so thats why you need to stop to spread the "love your conservative parents" propaganda."

This isn’t the first time the 36-year-old has touched on the polarizing subject of politics within her family. Earlier this month, Perry revealed she contacted her pro-Trump family to “tell them I love them and am here for them” after it was projected that Joe Biden had won the 2020 presidential election.
