Simon Cowell Breaks Back In Cycling Accident

Simon Cowell is recovering after injuring his back in a cycling accident this weekend.

The America’s Got Talent judge wounded himself in a “minor accident” while testing out a new electric bike at his residence in Malibu, California, on Saturday (August 8). According to PEOPLE, the 60-year-old's spokesperson said he'd fallen off his bike, reportedly breaking his back in the incident, and is currently being prepared for a surgery at a hospital.

“Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family,” his rep told the outlet. “He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.”

Before the painful incident, Cowell had been enjoying quality family time with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, their 6-year-old son, Eric, and Silverman’s 14-year-old son, Adam, amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking about how he spends his time with his son, Cowell told the outlet in May, "We definitely have more family time together now. We watch movies in the evening, play together, read books, comics, everything.”

Cowell has also been making the most of his free time embracing his fitness routine, which involves cycling, walking, swimming, push-ups, and committing to a healthy meal plan. “I haven’t cheated on my died,” he said. “I feel really healthy at the moment.”

Apart from leisure time, Cowell will resume filming the talent competition show’s first live episode of its fifteenth season this Tuesday (August 11).
