Instagram Keeps Detailed Lists Of Your Interests & You Can See It

Instagram is keeping track of all your interests in a long, super-detailed list and you can actually find it in the app. The list is, unsurprisingly, used to create targeted ads in your feeds.

According to Instagram, every user's individualized list of interests is compiled by taking a look at who they follow, what posts you engage with, and other websites and apps they use on their phone. Since Instagram is owned as Facebook, the social media pulls data from there, as well.

If you're interested in checking out Instagram's list about your own interests, it's actually pretty easy to find. The first step is to open the app and then tap the profile icon on the bottom right. After you're on your own profile page click the three lines in the top right corner. At the bottom of the screen, there's a settings button. After tapping the settings button, choose security from the panel on the left hand side. Choose 'Access Data' and then scroll all the way down to and select 'View All' under 'Ads Interests.'

Here's a quick recap of the steps: profile > three lines > settings > security > access data > ads interests/view all.

Once you've accessed the list, you'll be able to see all the topics Instagram uses to create targeted ads for your feed. The lists appear to be wide-ranging and some feel they don't accurately capture what they're interested in. Some topics include locations, foods, television shows, and celebrities.

Did you look at your own list? What do you think about it?
