Everyone has something to say about everything, especially on the internet, so when David Brinkley, of Oklahoma City, shared a photo on Facebook of his wife sleeping alongside their two young children, Facebook users had a lot to say.
"Do I have to squeeze into a small corner of the bed sometimes? Yeah? But my God how beautiful does she look holding my children?" wrote David in a post shared more than 500,000 times. While some users shared their own pics of their family co-sleeping, others blasted the couple for potentially endangering their children.
"This is dangerous for the baby," one Facebook user commented. "Babies should sleep alone, on their back, in a crib."
Another user added, "Co-sleeping is not safe. Children get rolled on all of the time, and this type of behavior creates children who can’t sleep on their own without touch!"
Co-sleeping is highly discouraged by experts who note it can lead to accidental suffocation and increases the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
The backlash forced Brinkley to take down the picture, but his wife later took to Facebook to defend her husband, insisting their children were never in any danger, and it was only posted as a "sweet sentiment."
