Riding Down Ute Pass

Yesterday, I made a mistake.

I went on a long motorcycle ride without checking the weather.

I rode up into the mountains through a gap called Ute Pass.  I rode up to a gambling town called Cripple Creek, hung out awhile and rode back.

On the way back, it got scary dark. Lightning in the distance and it looked bad. I got to a town called Woodland Park and pulled off into a cheese shop to dodge the storm.  See video of the storm and the flash flooding on my Instagram @daveryankdwb

I thought I'd wait an hour or so and it would clear up, but nope. There was so much rain there were mudslides on Ute Pass and long story short, I had to spend the night in Woodland Park. I tried to make a run for it before they closed the pass but the rain was so bad I couldn't make it.  I tried THREE times.

I got one of the last hotel rooms in Woodland Park and spent the night. This morning I rode home down Ute Pass. It was eerie cuz I was pretty much the only person on the road, it was foggy, my windshield kept fogging up and the road was wet.  It was kinda cool, but it was a little bit scary.

Here's a sped-up video.
